Are you looking to expand your fleet or taking on a project which requires a new piece of construction machinery? Are you looking to buy a midi digger?
In this week’s Digger News, we answer the questions you may have about buying a midi digger. Helping you make the right decision for your project.
WHAT IS A MIDI DIGGER?
There are some slight discrepancies over the exact size and weight classifications the midi digger comes under. However, most typically they fall somewhere between 7 and 12 tonnes. Meaning these are relatively small machines compared to the size of larger crawler excavators being used within the construction industry. Due to their size, midi diggers are very popular across the world. When you buy a midi digger you have a wide range of options available, including having a cab or canopy, air conditioning, rubber tracks and zero tail swing.
Midi diggers are the perfect hybrid between mini diggers and larger 13+ tonne machines. Providing the power of a larger machine within the compact size of a smaller excavator. Making them incredibly versatile, as well as being easy to transport from site to site. Which is a definite bonus for construction firms looking to save on machinery transportation costs.
WHEN SHOULD A MIDI DIGGER BE USED?
A large percentage of midi diggers are sold to businesses that work within building, road and bridge construction, as well as landscaping. Although they can be used for much, much more! Most midi excavators are often equipped with an array of auxiliary hydraulic services that help to increase the versatility of these machines.
They can provide great digging depth and force which makes them ideal for trench digging. A compact zero tail swing design is very common for these excavators. This makes them perfect for use on sites with limited manoeuvrability, such as on housing developments. These size excavators can also easily be used alongside a wall, so if you are taking on a landscaping or renovation project you should definitely look to buy a midi digger.
WHERE CAN I KEEP A MIDI DIGGER?
One of the biggest questions when looking to buy any construction machinery tends to be, where am I going to keep this? So, here’s a suggestion for when you buy a midi digger.
If you are a larger construction company you’ll likely be able to store your midi digger in the same place as the rest of your equipment. However, if you’re a smaller firm or perhaps this is your first piece of machinery you’re buying for a personal project, you may not have the luxury of a large yard or storage warehouse to use. Thankfully, because of the compact size of a midi digger, they are pretty easy to store. Whether it be in a sheltered storage area or even on a driveway, they’ll take up far less space than a full size excavator.
