In recent years, there has certainly been a prominent shift within the construction industry when it comes to workers. This particular section has always been known to be male-dominated, but it seems that females are getting their foot in the door of roles that were previously seen as being suitable for men. Find out more about how equality within the construction industry is changing, and the fantastic team we have here at International Plant Sales.
THE MAIN WORKFORCE ISSUE THAT WE CURRENTLY FACE
To improve the current equality issues within the construction industry, there has been a greater focus on developing the diversity in the workplace.
Did you know that only 15% of the UK construction workforce is made up of women. Plus, only 2% of these have manual on-site jobs. With a huge number of white males making up the workforce in the industry, this is typically seen as the norm. However, why should it be?
Today there are more women in employment than there have ever been, however it is lacking within the construction industry.
HOW CAN WE INCREASE THE EQUALITY WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR?
Role Models
The construction industry is often perceived to be made up of men. However, it’s time we break the image, and increase the amount of women working in the sector.
To inspire women to enter the construction industry, they need role models to look up to. It’s important to see people succeeding in order to get them involved in the sector. Be proud of working in the industry, if you’re female, and make sure you shout about it!
Apprenticeships
Most industries will already make the most of apprentices in the workplace, and they are excellent in the construction industry. The scheme is great for recruiting new staff, and improving the skills of current staff.
PRAISING THE WOMEN WITHIN THE TEAM AT IPS
Here at International Plant Sales, we believe in equality within the workplace. Our sales team consists of mixed genders, as well as our marketing team. All of which have the experience and knowledge to sell construction machinery to the international market with confidence. International Plant SalesLtd is also a subsidiary company within H. E. Group Ltd, and the same ethics apply.
If you’re looking to purchase used construction machinery, then pick up the phone or drop our team an email. We would be happy to assist!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INCREASING DIVERSITY WITHIN THE INDUSTRY?
There are three main advantages to increasing diversity in the workplace. These benefits are:
An improvement in staff retention
A wider choice of individuals to recruit from
Improved on-site working relationships between employees from different backgrounds
As the amount of open job vacancies in the industry increases, it’s more important than ever for construction managers to inspire individuals to apply for a career.
