When it comes to construction machinery, companies should think carefully about the machines they use on sites. Most types of plant equipment can carry out similar tasks, so why not save some money and ditch the extra machines?
This week we take a look at telehandlers for sale, and delve into the popular brands, Manitou and JCB. If you’re looking to buy a telehandler, you’ve come to the right place.
WHAT IS A TELEHANDLER USED FOR?
Telehandlers, also known as a telescopic handler, can be very efficient types of plant machinery if used to its full potential.
This type of machine is most commonly known for moving loads around in areas where a conventional forklift can not operate effectively. Common material moved in this way include:
- Pallets
- Concrete
- Packaged goods
- Timber
Telehandlers are normally found on construction and agricultural sites. Due to their stability and wheel types they are also great when used on the road.
Depending on the model of the machine, telehandlers can extend the telescopic boom to various lengths and heights.
HISTORY OF JCB
JCB was first established in Staffordshire, England in 1945 by Joseph Cyril Bamford.
After the success of their backhoe loaders and other construction machinery, they debuted their first telescopic forklift in 1977. The JCB 520 telehandler was the first machine made, and it was clearly very popular with their customers. Since then, JCB has manufactured and sold over 200,000 telehandler machines in the UK alone. JCB telehandlers are renowned for their strength and sturdiness due to their single piece boom design.
Currently, there are around 11,000 employees working for the well-established and much loved brand in the UK and countries in Europe. They are constantly working towards their aim of providing quality products to customers all over the world.
HISTORY OF MANITOU
Manitou has been making lifting equipment since 1958. The French brand was founded by Marcel Braud when the first forklift truck was designed. It wasn’t until 1981, when the first telehandler was launched. Manitou entered the telehandler market with a product they hoped would increase productivity and reduce the burden of users.
Fast forward to recent years, 2018 saw the launch of the first electric telehandler prototype. Manitou is constantly thinking of operators in years to come.
Manitou dedicates their time to solely designing telehandlers and loading machines. Instead of branching out with other construction equipment, they can focus entirely on perfecting telehandlers and improving the range.
