We will cover why you would use this particular type of plant equipment. Also we take a look at the long reach excavators available here at International Plant Sales.

WHAT ARE LONG REACH EXCAVATORS?

For those of you that are new to the construction industry, long reach excavators are the development of a standard excavator. They are equipped with an extra long arm to allow operators to reach areas that would have initially been hard to get to with other diggers. They are designed to be used for the following type of work:

  • Construction
  • Demolition
  • Dredging rivers and large bodies of water
  • Deep excavation

There are a wide variety of projects and businesses that would definitely profit from using a long reach excavator in particular.

If you see these abbreviations you’ll be clued up when it comes to construction machinery, especially long reach excavators.

SLF = Super Long Front

LR = Long Reach

WHAT ARE LONG REACH EXCAVATORS USED FOR?

Long reach excavators can be used for many tasks, but are commonly seen on demolition sites. The iconic wrecking ball used to be the go-to equipment for demolition, but a long reach excavator has surpassed this. They are incredibly versatile machines and we can understand why operators are opting for long reach excavators instead.

There are a wide range of other types of projects that will benefit from the use of a long reach excavator including quarrying, deep excavation and railway work.

Due to the increased reach of the arm, long reach excavators are great for any work that involves bridge repairs, multi-story car parks and water. With the right attachments operators can remove material from the sea bed without having to risk damage to the machine.

ADVANTAGES OF USING LONG REACH EXCAVATORS

Why choose a long reach excavator over other diggers we hear you ask?

SAFETY

All construction sites benefit from additional safety, when they choose to use long reach excavators. There is a substantial risk of hazardous materials falling from high places, and collapsing structures to all site workers, especially on demolition sites. A long reach excavator will permit operators to safely control objects by handling the material in a controlled approach.

VERSATILITY

Long reach excavators come as standard with a bucket. Due to the wide range of attachments now available, there are no limitations to using this type of excavator. By using a breaker, or power rakes, the operator can scoop, crush, as well as pick up and handle heavy material with increased precision.

There aren’t just a small handful of plant accessories to choose from, attachments and buckets have dramatically improved in relation to the diversity and adaptability. To enhance your digger why not add attachments?
