Plant machinery for sale – How have Plant sales been affected by COVID?

used plant machinery

We all thought 2021 would be different to 2020, but we are remaining optimistic! 2020 was the year of the COVID-19 lockdown which gave everyone the time to make changes to their garden, or completely redesign it in some cases. The whole of the construction industry grinded to a halt for a few months until it was deemed safe to continue to work. What did this all mean for plant sales though?

We take a look at how plant sales were affected by the pandemic, as well as plant machinery for sale here at International Plant Sales.

2019 VS 2020 PLANT SALES

Plant machinery for sale took a back seat in 2020 when construction companies didn’t need any new equipment for their fleet. With no work going ahead for a couple of months, no one wanted to buy used construction equipment!

Telehandler sales remain low, and are still seeing sales significantly below pre-Covid levels.

Compared to the same month in 2019, October 2020 fell short of sales by 3% and November by 4%. Suggesting that plant machinery sales stabilised in the last quarter of 2020. Due to the numerous national lockdowns and restrictions, the rest of 2020 was roughly around 25.6% down in sales compared to 2019. What will the rest of 2021 have in store for plant machinery sales?

There was a large spike in customers purchasing mini and midi diggers. In the first 11 months of the year sales for this type of plant were only 9% below 2019 levels. We wonder why!

Many households used their time off and staying home to work on creating the garden they’ve always wanted. With a glorious few months of sunshine in the UK, it was perfect to renovate gardens and land. Unless you own acres of land or you’re in the middle of the countryside, it’s highly unlikely you will need anything bigger than a mini digger for your garden.

Mini diggers are fantastic for the following tasks in a garden:

  • Removing tree stumps – Especially if you have the correct attachments
  • Mixing compost in with standard soil, creating the perfect bedding for new plants and shrubbery
  • Digging a hole for a pond, or even a pool depending on how adventurous you feel
  • Moving and placing heavy rocks
  • They are also fantastic for small scale demolition projects, such as pulling down an old conservatory in readiness for a brand new one!
